ABOUT US
Our Practice
Bayside Family Counselling is a therapy practice located in the Bayside area of Victoria. Our practitioner provides counselling services to families and individuals, helping address physical, emotional and psychological challenges within various stages of life. We particularly assist clients who have experienced trauma, violence and or abuse, with our services focusing on recovery and healing for anyone who needs support from experiencing these kinds of events.
Our Professional
Melissa Brown is a qualified and registered counsellor and social worker, with over 16 years of experience in community health, justice systems and education services. Melissa practices client-centered counselling within a trauma-informed framework, purposefully being led by the client to ‘walk in their shoes’. To assist with this practice, Melissa has completed the following additional training:
・Bringing up Great Kids (BUGK)
・Love Bites Respectful Relationships
・Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA)
・Recognise and Respond to Sexual Assault
Melissa is also a family violence training facilitator with seven and half years of experience, training various community agencies and services in identifying family violence and using the MARAM Framework. Melissa instructs in the MARAM Collaborative Practice module, as well as being a keen user of the MARAM Risk Assessment and Safety Planning tools with her clients. Melissa also practices using the Safe and Together™ Model and Perpetrator Mapping Tool, to achieve better outcomes for children and families.
Melissa is currently training to be a Court Networker in the Family and Federal Circuit Court, assisting families, expert witnesses, Applicants and Respondents attending Court.

Family Issues
Specialist individual parent support due to conflict, changes in parenting or family unit, separations, divorces and blended families, family members’ safety and/ or focused interventions if violence and abuse is present.
Family Violence and Sexual Assault Counselling
Counselling and ongoing support from post or current experiences of trauma experienced from domestic/family violence, sexual assault and child abuse.
Case Management and Navigation of Service Systems
Collaboration, advocacy and case management with other service sectors to co-ordinate best possible client(s) outcomes.
Childhood and Adolescent Concerns
Developmental stages and transitions in life, bullying and self-esteem concerns, understanding dating and friendships, relationships within the family, experiences from trauma or exposure to family violence.
Play Therapy
Addressing confronting problems with self-direction by clients; issues explored include trauma experienced from sexual abuse and family violence, unhelpful behaviours, bullying and harm experienced by children and adolescents.
